Repair it, or trade up to a refurbished one. Same day.
The story behind Computers for Change: come in for a repair, and if the fix is not worth it, walk out the same day with a refurbished laptop, your data moved over, and a 1-year hardware warranty.
One shop for buying, selling, and fixing computers
Most shops only do one of these. We buy, sell, trade, and repair Mac and PC, all in one place on College Street. Sixteen years of doing it under one roof means our customers get a straight answer about what is worth fixing and what is worth replacing.
Buy a refurbished laptop
Quality Mac and PC laptops and desktops, tested and ready, each with a 1-year hardware warranty, and data transfer for half off with your purchase. Inventory changes daily, and Progressive Leasing financing is available.
Shop refurbishedGet a repair
Mac and PC, laptops and desktops. Screens, batteries, storage, slow machines, and virus cleanup. Most repairs start at $99 plus parts; we always quote before we start the work.
See repair optionsSell your old tech for cash
One of the only shops in town that buys laptops, desktops, iPhones, and iPads, working or broken. Bring it in for a free quote and walk out with cash, or put it toward a refurbished machine.
Sell or tradeToo costly to fix? Trade up instead.
It is the idea Computers for Change was built on, and the story behind many happy customers. A repair that costs more than the laptop is worth is not the right answer, but giving up your data and starting from scratch is not the answer either.
Bring it in
Drop off the laptop that is giving you trouble. We will take a look and talk through your options, no pressure.
Repair or trade up
If the repair is worth it, we fix it. If it is not, you can apply the trade-in value of your old device (if it has any) toward a refurbished laptop instead, often for less than the repair would have cost.
Out the same day
We move your data over and you leave the same day with a working machine and a 1-year hardware warranty.
Whatever you need, we have probably seen it
Sixteen years on College Street means we have repaired most laptop and desktop models on the market, and have built our refurbished inventory around the machines that actually hold up over time.
Our mission
For 16 years we have helped people repair, reuse, and responsibly recycle technology. We keep working machines out of the landfill, donate computers to local schools and nonprofits, and people drop off laptops to us almost every day. Buying refurbished is good for your wallet and good for the community. The longer a laptop stays in use, the less new manufacturing the planet has to absorb, and the lower the barrier for someone who needs a computer to get one.

Computers for Change is locally owned and has operated from 196 College Street since 2010. We sit in the heart of downtown Burlington, near UVM, Champlain College, and St. Michael's, and most days we see a mix of students, families, professionals, and small businesses. Our team is small, just Sam, Brett, and one other person, so you talk to the same people every time. Sam and Brett have both been here from the beginning.
