Common laptop repairs

What we see most often

Screens

Cracked or dim screens

Screen replacement varies by laptop. Many are a straightforward swap; others require a full display assembly. We quote in person before any work starts. Touch-screen and high-refresh-rate gaming screens cost more.

Batteries

Worn batteries

When a laptop only runs while plugged in, the battery is usually done. We can check battery health and replace it on most models. Battery health under 80 percent is when we usually recommend replacement.

Performance

Slow laptops

Storage clutter, an aging hard drive, or too many startup programs. An SSD upgrade and cleanup can make an older Windows laptop feel new again.

Why is my laptop slow?
Software

Virus and malware

Pop-ups, slowdowns, browser hijacks. We handle cleanup and Windows reinstalls when needed.

Check for a virus
Storage

Upgrades and data transfers

SSD upgrades, more storage, and moving your data from an old laptop to a new one. Most older laptops that take a 2.5-inch SSD see a major speed bump.

Charging

Charging and DC jack issues

Sometimes the charger, sometimes the jack, sometimes the battery. We will diagnose first and tell you which one. DC jack repair on laptops is more involved than it sounds.

Keyboards

Keys and trackpads

Stuck keys, sticky keys, broken trackpad buttons, and full keyboard replacements on models where individual keys are not available.

Hinges

Hinges and cases

Cracked hinges and worn cases are common on older laptops. Sometimes a fix is straightforward, sometimes the cost runs into trade-up territory.

Gaming laptops

We work on the big names

Gaming laptops are usually more complex inside than business laptops, and they run hot. Common issues we see: thermal throttling from worn thermal paste, fan failures, dead batteries (a gaming laptop battery has a tough life), and GPU issues. We work on Razer Blade, MSI, Alienware, Asus ROG, Acer Predator, and HP Omen.

Laptop repair FAQ

Common questions

How much does laptop repair cost?

Most repairs start at $99 plus parts. A $50 bench fee applies if a no-parts fix is not possible. Harder jobs cost more, and we quote before we start.

How long does it take?

Most repairs are done the same day or the next business day. Some screen replacements take longer if we need to order parts.

Can you fix gaming laptops?

Yes. Razer, MSI, Asus ROG, Alienware, Acer Predator, and others. They are often more involved internally, so the labor side runs higher, but we work on them.

My laptop will not turn on. Can you check it?

Yes. Bring it in. Often it is the charger, battery, or a simple component, and we can tell you in minutes.

What if the laptop is not worth fixing?

You can put it toward a refurbished laptop and we will move your data over the same day. The trade-up often costs less than the repair would have.

Do you work on 2-in-1 or convertible laptops?

Yes. Lenovo Yoga, HP Spectre, Microsoft Surface Pro, and similar. Hinges and screens on these are more involved than standard laptops, but most repairs are still possible.

Can you upgrade my laptop's RAM or storage?

Depends on the laptop. Many older laptops are upgradeable; many newer ultrabooks are not (RAM and storage are often soldered). We will check your model on the spot.

Do you back up my data before a repair?

If a repair could put your data at risk we will flag it. Backing up is a paid add-on; otherwise please back up before drop-off. We do not browse or copy anything off your machine. Data is treated with care.
